Nelly Sturm

Bassoon

She studied early music with the recorder as her main instrument at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig and at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya, Barcelona. She completed her training on historical bassoons with Györgyi Farkas, Donna Agrell, Alberto Grazzi and Christian Beuse (Soloist Master 2018) in Basel, Milan and Berlin. During her studies she also received numerous artistic stimuli in the field of medieval music, which she put into practice for many years with the ensemble La Mouvance. Today she lives and works in Basel as a freelance musician and instrumental teacher.

Nelly Sturm has performed at various festivals, including the MDR-Musiksommer, the Händelfestspiele in Halle, the Bachfestival in Leipzig and the Resonanzen in Vienna. She plays in various chamber music formations and ensembles, including the Lautten Compagney Berlin, Capriccio Barockorchester Basel, De Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, La Banda, Orfeo Orchestra Budapest and the Sächsisches and Dresdner Barockorchester.

Owing to her long-standing interest in non-European musical traditions and in the Churches of the East, in 2021 she was a Research Fellow of the research project at the Goethe University Frankfurt on Polycentricity and Plurality of Premodern Christianities, and since 2021 she has been studying theology at the University of Basel.
