Matthias Klenota
Violin
Matthias Klenota is a violinist, composer and creator of interdisciplinary works. He studied violin with Amandine Beyer at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and with Susanne Scholz at the Musikhochschule Leipzig, as well as history and musicology at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau.
Engagements have taken him onto stages throughout Europe with some of the most distinguished exponents of early music, such as Amandine Beyer, Andrea Marcon, Kristian Bezuidenhout, Lars-Ulrik Mortensen and Maurice Steger, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, La Cetra and I Pizzicanti. He also performs with musicians from other genres, for example Giovanni Solimma, Larry Grenadier and Erika Stucky.
He has a particular interest in improvisation and in research into previously unpublished sources. A core element of his artistic work is bringing historical performance practice and other art forms together in a contemporary stage practice, while always preserving the independence of the elements involved. He also teaches this interdisciplinary practice as a guest lecturer at art and music universities such as the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main and the Hochschule für Musik Basel FHNW, always with early music at its centre.
In 2021 Matthias Klenota won first prize at the Concorso Violino Barocco Marco Uccellini.
